MISSION STATEMENT

Deer Mountain Productions was founded with the goal of making movies that matter -

dedicated to telling entertaining stories that inspire audiences with compassion, courage, and hope.

OUR VISION

Deer Mountain Productions was created to establish a place for telling entertaining stories that inspire, uplift, and encourage.

We make movies that are filled with adventure, humor, romance and wit – that take people on a journey, and bring a smile to their

face. We make fun movies…and yet, at the end of the credits, perhaps a heart is changed, too. Faith. Courage. Hope.

Movies are important. They provide a looking-glass out to the world…to entertain people as it allows them to explore the world and their

place in it. But it’s clear that somewhere along the way, we in the film industry forgot what it was created for -- to entertain, to challenge,

and to somehow bring the scope of human experience and emotion onto a flickering silver screen. Adults who have been movie-lovers all

their lives are starting to wonder when they saw their last great movie. People are starting to think…there’s something wrong going on.

We want to be part of the answer. Movies can change the way we think about life, ourselves, and each other. Films can somehow

make the world seem a little smaller in scope…they can build bridges. Deer Mountain will make well-made, well-budgeted movies that

make a difference, make a profit, and stand the test of time.

We’re here to give back. And we’re going to do it with integrity, vision, and lots of heart – while we go back to the basics – telling stories.

THE NUMBERS

Now you may think that telling great stories is a fine idea, but for the investor who is reading this, who is looking to step in and

come alongside a company like Deer Mountain, you’re probably thinking that there is a heavy price to pay for making great family-friendly

entertainment.  That the rougher-edged R-rated, violent fare is where all the profits are.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

The following data is from the Dove Foundation’s landmark study in January 1999 called the Profitability Study of MPAA-Rated Movies.

The report of 2,380 movies released between 1988-1997, and then updated again for films released between 2000-2003, shows

that films are profitable in almost direct proportion to their rating.  Some of the numbers…

1)  Of the top 25 highest grossing films of all time, only 1 was rated R.

2)  The numbers since 1980 show that a given G or PG film is nearly 5 times more likely to place among the box office leaders than an “R” film.

3)  41% of all “R” films generated less than $2 million in box office receipts.

4)  In 1991, the median PG rated picture grossed $15.7 million in domestic box office, ALMOST TRIPLE the median R picture gross of $5.5 million

5)  The Average Rate of Return (ROI) , or Return on Investment for a G-rated movie was 94.5%, and for PG it was 72.6%  But the ROI for an R-rated film was only 28.7%.

Wow.  You would think that Hollywood would be clamoring to get in on the G-PG bandwagon.  But look at this fact…

Hollywood churned out more than 12 times as many “R” films as G-rated!  Even though the data shows that G-rated films

produced 11 times greater profit than its R-rated counterpart.  The G-rated movies would PROFIT on average 79 million.

The R-rated movies would have an average profit of only 7 million.

$79 million  vs  $7 million

Which rating would you rather have your movie to be?

Clearly, for whatever reasons, Hollywood is out of step with the majority of the movie-going public.

That’s why Deer Mountain was formed.  To re-establish the audience as one of the significant players.

To make great movies, and give the audience what they want, and what they have wanted for a very, very long time.

Now, can every movie be a Toy Story?  No, nor should it be. The world of film was not meant to be peppermint candy,

always geared to young audiences.  But it does show that the films with the widest possible audience, does the best

financially – consistently.  And the PG-G market is where Deer Mountain is going to focus its attention: creating warm-hearted

films, with humor, grace, and intelligence.
